The terroir, the origin of all

Dehesa de los Canonigos is located in the river Duero Valley, just between Valbuena and Pesquera de Duero, inside the so called Golden Mile of Ribera del Duero

The property has an area of 600 ha., only 60 belong to vineyard. It was the first property to plant vines in the repopulation of the Duero after the arrival of phylloxera in the eighteenth century, with vines imported from Napa Valley in California used as a pattern and implanted with vinifera imported from France by Toribio Lecanda.

The vineyard is located on the slope of a hillside with north-south orientation at 800 meters above sea level, with influence of the Mediterranean-continental climate, which gives as a result a privileged place for the proper development and maturation of the grapes.

The diverse composition of soils and the different ages of the vines allow to divide the estate into sub-plots, all of them with limestone composition, which gives the wines of Dehesa of los Canonigos refinement, elegance and ability for aging.

Our plots have a high planting density and we obtain yields of less than 3,500 Kg / ha on average. We make a short pruning to allow the regeneration of each plant and making manual harvest in boxes of no more than 12 kg to guarantee the integrity of the grape We make a first selection in the vineyard and a second one in the selection table in the cellar. All this allows us to extract the maximum essence of each strain and ensure high quality harvest at Dehesa de los Canonigos.

Grape varieties

The predominant variety is the Tempranillo, a clone of Tinta Fina, all the vines are implanted with wood from our older vines.

We also have other minority varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon –used to compensate- and the variety Albillo white, with high glyceric content that gives uniqueness to our wine SOLIDEO.
